Double Page Spread Analysis

Language- This double page spread has an image of Lady GaGa, the camera shot is a medium long shot and she is looking directly at the camera to address the reader. The heading reads 'She's the man', this is a 'dig' towards Lady GaGa because at the time of publishing there were lots of rumers flying around about GaGa saying she was a man. The main colours for this spread are red and black, these colours represent power but black can also represent dark, gloominess, like she has a secret...
She is wearing not alot on the top half and has her arm covering her breasts, she also has skin tight trousers on this shows she is dressed seductively.  There is also a small bit of writing to get the readers attention and draw them to the interview which will be on the next page.

Institution- The institution of this magazine is Q, which is published by Bauer Media Group.

Ideology- The idea of this spread is that because of the rumers, they are stirring up the rumers. They also put her in a seductive outfit to stir up rumers as to if she is a man or woman. She also has her hand in the lower area of her body also so stir conflict as to if she is or not.

Audience- The target audience for this magazine would be Lady GaGa fans, or for any one interested in that genre of music or interested in the rumers flying around about her, because of the many factors it will hit a wide ranged audience and will attract more people.

Representation- The double page spread represents its target audience by using images and features that relate to the genre of music the magazine is about.

Double Page Spread

Language- the camera is ust below her facing up to her and from quite far away to capture her full body. Because the camera is facing upwards at her, she appears bigger than normal, which gives the impression that she is powerful, She is also wearing a black, small, skintight play suit and black killer heals, this is like what a super hero with power would wear, this also shows that she is trying to put out that she is powerful. There is also bright red on the flag and her hair is also bright red, Red also is associated with passion and power, which shows the low angle camera links in with the colout. Also she is sat on the American flag and in the background it says 'USA'.

Institution- The institution of this magazine is NME. NME is published by IPC. IPC is one of the leading magazine publishers in the UK.

Ideology- This magazine was published when Florence was releasing her song 'you got the love' which links in with the spread. Also in the back ground it reads 'You got the love' also she is sat on the USA flag, which shows she loves the USA, Even though she was born in england, at the point of this magazine being published, she had just had a hit in America, which is the likely reason for her implying she loves America.

Audience- This Double page spread is aimed at anyone who likes Florence or her music, also American people would be attracted to this magazine because someone who is non-American is saying they love America.

Representation- With in this page spread, Florence and the Machine is represented and she is promoting her new single. She is also representing America and the fact that she has now made in to America

Billboard double page spread

The camera is facing Amy Winehouse from a distance and slightly above her, to get her full body in the image. Amy is laid looking down as if the camera wasnt there and her photo takes up one whole side of the double spread. The photo is also in black and white, and because she is looking down it gives a feeling that she isn't happy, which puts her into a negative light. Above the writing it says "Amy's Ink House" which gives the reader a breif insight about what the articles about. Amy is also in the pop genre, so from this. This double page represents the promoting of Amy Winehouse, and her CD which was coming out when this magazine was publishes, and it also represents a pop genre, which Amy is. The typical audience for this double page spread would be the target audience for the front cover too. She is dressed in just a bra and lounge shorts, with her hand tucked into her shorts, with one leg upm which shows she is lounging and she doesn't really care, and she's laid back, also the camera is looking down on her, which shows that because of the way she is dressed and the way she is laid, she is quite laid back. The camera shot is a full body shot. Also the photo is in black and white, so she can't show lots of emotion, because it would conflict with the 'laid back' appearance. I have seen the continuity through-out the magazine, to up keep the genre of the magazine, which is what I will aim for. The spread is aimed at anyone who is a fan of Any Winehouse.

Thursday 25 November 2010

Language - Main image is Lady GaGa and the camera is facing her straight forward and it is an above the waist shot, this shot is posed as she is looking right at the camera, this is to catch the readers eye because she looks like she is looking directly at the audience. The main headline says "Lady GaGa, how she writes her top hits", so this magazine would appeal to anyone who likes Lady GaGa or anyone who is interested in writing songs. The main theme in this cover is Purple, which is quite a fun but neuteral colour. This magazine would also appeal to anyone in mexico, because one of the sell lines is 'Itunes Invades Mexico'.

Institution - Billboard, The Publishers Quarterly.

Ideology - Promote's Lady GaGa who was bringing out a new album at the time of publishing. She is looking directly at the camera, i think the idea behind that is that is will catch peoples attention and they will buy it because it looks as though someone famous is looking right at them.

Audience - This is aimed at people who like Pop/Dance genre's of music. Also people who are fans of Lady GaGa or who are interested in any of the varied sell lines on the cover.

The mast head is 'KERRANG', it is in bold and it looks like a light is shining through the text, like it's lit up. My Front Cover

This is my front cover, i went with my first choice of font for the masthead, and i chose several of my ideas for the story lines. I especially used the blackberry choice of story line, because the girl in my image is holding a blackberry. I also went with a yellow and purple theme, because yellow is considered a happy, cheerful colour, and purple is the same colour as the official wyke college logo. For this cover i used a programme called publisher, i uploaded the photo onto it and then added my text. Also i used photoshop to make the barcode transparent, i then placed it onto my front cover.

Front Cover Photo

For the photo I decided to use my friend that goes to this college, i asked her to stand holding a folder, to represent the education on the college. The photo is a medium close up, of a young girl. Also in my photo the girl is holding a blackberry phone, and a story line next to it is "Join the blackberry world." Another story line was the Halloween party line, and the story line is orange, the colour that represents Halloween. My Mast head is also at the bottom, which is unusual for a magazine, but i attempted to place the mast head at the top and because of the picture placing it did not work, so i decided to put it at the bottom, i dont think this is such a bad idea because most people when they pick up a magazine, look to the bottom to see the story lines and the price of the magazine, so i though that it being at the bottom would also attract the readers attention.

Draft of my main cover

Mast head for my Mag

These are the fonts i like for the masthead, i decided yellow, because it's a bright colour that catches your eye, and yellow, is normally catigorised as a happy, cheerful colour.

Language- This magazine has a mast head that reads "College magazine" so the audience is immediatley notified that the magazine is aimed at all college students and not just at a specific college. The mast head is also in yellow, which attracts the readers attention because the back ground is black. The Mast head also connotates the date of the magazine, to the top right, it says "Summer 2009" And the mast head is yellow, which represents summer. The image is a medium close up, of a young man.

Institution- The institution of this magazine isn't for one specific college, it's for all college students. The institution is 'College Lifestyle' a company who make magazines in the US and Canada, for all college students, i know it's in US and Canada because just underneath the barcode are the prices, in dollars.

Language- The masthead of this magazine is called "Beloit" which is the name of a college. The font is big and bold and is at the top of the page and grasps your attention so you know imediatley what the magazine is called. The background of the front cover is blurred out, making the girl in the image be the main focus, and she's holding a chemical beaker, so we immediatley know it's an educational magazine. The denotation of this cover is that it's an educational magazine, encouraging people to study at the college. There is a sub heading, saying "Doing Science at Beloit" this also goes along with the main image, because she's holding a chemical beaker.

Institution- The institution of this magazine is Beloit college.

Also the pupil in the text is foreign, showing that people of different race's can also have an equal opportunity to have an education. Also the sub heading that reads "Doing Science at Beloit" the word 'Science' is the biggest word in the sub heading, implying that the text is about Science and Science is a big toppic at Beloit.

Audience- The demographic audience of this text would be aimed at college in their late teens, it would also be aimed at students who are in of any gender and ethnicity, to attract as many students as possible.
